This Hopi basket depicting the Twin War Gods and Sacred Corn was created in the 1960s. The Twin War Gods are grandsons of Spider Woman and sons of the Earth and Sky. They mingle with the Hopi people and play tricks on them. If the Hopi are in trouble, the twins appeal to their grandmother who shows them how to outwit cruelty and evil. Corn is sacred in almost every way possible, from creation to sustenance. Although the weaver is unknown, the basket is woven of natural and dyed yucca and is in excellent condition.
