A large and healthy herd of sheep are still of major importance to the Navajo. Livestock is considered the foundation of wealth on the Navajo reservation, so Peggy Black has chosen to represent a select grouping of sheep in this weaving. Surrounded by the ceremonial basket design, these sheep are enclosed and protected from both natural and supernatural forces. Because of honoring them in such a manner, her herd should increase in numbers, which will allow for an ongoing food source. Peggy is an exceptional weaver, who continues to create first class, warm, and fuzzy, baskets.
