Hand-Coiled Micaceous Bowl by Monte White (#02)

9" diameter

The craft of Navajo pottery has been around since the beginnings of the culture. Most common are utilitarian vessels used for cooking, storing, and ceremonial purposes. Monte (Tee) White has perfected that age-old craft and added a great deal of creativity to produce this very interesting and appealing pottery vessel. With micaceous clay gathered from his super-secret source, Tee has hand-formed, fashioned, and fired this wonderful clay bowl, and adorned it with pieces of sky stone. Then, he coated the entire vessel with pinion pitch. This joining of earth and sky is Tee's tribute to a simple, less complicated life which honors the most basic elements.
