The Royston Nevada turquoise mines are located in a district northwest of Tonopah, Nevada. The claims consist of three mines: Bunker Hill, Oscar Wehrend, and the main producer, Royal Blue. The turquoise ore is in the form of veins and nuggets crystalized in a tan limonite host rock. Royston turquoise is known for its beautiful colors, which range from deep green to rich light blues set-off by varying shades of brown/tan/yellow limonite matrix. The Royston district is still producing small amounts of high-quality turquoise that ranges from a 5-6 in hardness for the best material. On rare occasion, such as with this particular cabochon, it is possible to see fine spider-web turquoise from the Royston mine.
