Teec Nos Pos is an old trading post located about 60 miles from Bluff. Long ago, it established a pattern for weavings that was reminiscent of Oriental rugs, which were popular in the Eastern states about one hundred years ago. The style is marked by elaborate borders and vivid colors. The Red Mesa variation of this style includes the borders and adds a livelier center design. This new rug, woven in subtle tans, browns, black, and white wool, is a fine example of this beautiful regional weaving style.

After the medicine woman told the people about the prayersticks she told them that there was a place in the underworld where two rivers crossed. It was called ni tqin'kae tsosi, fine fiber cotton (Indian hemp). There were two persons who brought the seed of that plant, they were spiders. They said that the people were to use the plant instead of skins for their clothing. So this seed was planted in the earth? More about this legend
