Potters from the “Sky City” of Acoma Pueblo are known and respected for their thin-walled, white clay ceramics, which are typically painted in black and orange. An unknown potter, who signed this pot as F. W., created a figurative effigy in the form of a turkey. In Anasazi times, only dogs and turkeys were domesticated, and birds provided food, as well as feathers, for robes and blankets.
