This necklace started out as an amazing pair of Santo Domingo Jacla earrings that were hand-ground sometime in the 1950s. The earrings came to us through a collector of American Indian art. Because of its clarity, hardness, attractive color, and durability, natural Blue Gem turquoise was preferred for beads in this particular time period. Because the mine was panning-out, it was not long before Blue Gem turquoise became less and less available. When we acquired the beads, we asked Katie Yazzie to restring them into one graduated strand and attach a heavy, attractive and functional clasp. As we knew it should, the necklace became a real beauty.
