Kokopelli is one of the most iconic images of the great American Southwest. The figure has ties to every culture imaginable and stories, many quite fanciful, that set it apart from any other image out there. Navajo silversmith Robert Taylor loves Kokopelli, because it represents the flute clan to his Hopi neighbors and water sprinkler, a fertility symbol, to the Navajo. He also grew up seeing Kokopelli imagery on petroglyphs and pictographs pecked into and painted upon canyon walls and rock alcoves around his home near Winslow, Arizona. We believe Robert’s 14k gold and sterling silver portrayal of the Humped Back Flute Player would have flattered the individual that originally inspired this creative process.

About the artist:

Robert Taylor

Robert Taylor - Silver & Goldsmith:
"Cluster, channel, leaf, inlay, casting... I've done about everything," Robert Taylor talks about his silver and goldsmithing, "There's a lot of artists that do it." And then he confides the reason he has set himself apart from other craftsmen. "I didn't really get anywhere until I decided to design my own style."
