Attend any Navajo social dance and you will see leather pouches such as this. Most often they grace the form of Navajo men in bandolier fashion. The bags are used as decoration and practical matters as well. Often, small essentials are stored inside for easy access. The men sway and double step to the beat of a drum, while the pouches add dash and charm to their appearance. This particular pouch has seen some use and is believed to have been made sometime in the 1960s. Each bag was different, with decorations that appealed to the owner. This one is made of soft leather with domed Liberty head dimes and circular, fluted, sterling silver buttons.
