Fannie King loves to weave and she could no more stop creating baskets than stop breathing. Fannie is a traditionally raised Navajo from the heart of Monument Valley, who married a Paiute from the Navajo Mountain area bordering northern Dinetah. The couple now lives in the shadow of that sacred hillock. The butterfly pattern is embraced by both the Navajo and Paiute cultures. The design stands for birth, life, upward movement, and a discovery of beauty and harmony. Fannie believes that, as human beings, we must continually recreate ourselves to maintain growth, both mentally and emotionally. For her, the butterfly is the embodiment of that philosophy.
