Everything has beauty and meaning in Navajo silver artist Jack Tom's work. Each aspect, from the handbraided horsehair bolo strings to the silver patterns on the horse itself, has meaning to Jack. When, as a little boy, Jack asked why the horses did not fall down when running at night, he was told that they are creatures of the heavens. Jack captures this idea by replacing the eyes with stars. Their frogs of their feet represent flint, thus when running, the flashes of lightning are created by their thundering hooves.
