About the artist:

Roger Begay is one of a handful of male Navajo rug weavers.  He is from the Pinon, Arizona area and focuses on the Wide Ruins style of weaving.  His work was featured in the special exhibit, "Men Who Weave, A Revival in Dine' Bikeyah", a special showing of contemporary Navajo male weavers which was launched at the Navajo Nation Museum and has since traveled around the country.

After the medicine woman told the people about the prayersticks she told them that there was a place in the underworld where two rivers crossed. It was called ni tqin'kae tsosi, fine fiber cotton (Indian hemp). There were two persons who brought the seed of that plant, they were spiders.
