About the artist:

Michelle Williams

A unique form of Navajo pottery has been created and enhanced by the Rose Williams family of Cow Springs, Arizona. Rose started creating forms from Navajo tradition including various sizes and shapes of water jars and bowls. Her daughter, Alice Cling, was the first offspring to experiment with stone polished pottery, developing a deep red slip. When fired, beautiful gold, brown, and black fire clouds flow around the pottery.

As you can see in the image, Michelle has mastered this distinctive form of Navajo pottery. Her forms are elegant, the sheen intense, and the colors simply beautiful.

Pottery
The Navajo are relatively recent arrivals to the Southwest. They probably migrated from the north in the 16th Century thereby becoming a part of the Pueblo IV period.
