Chapter 2: Kira and the
Phoenix Art Museum

by Kira Simpson

Yesterday we went to the Phoenix Art Museum.

We saw an exhibit on some Rembrandt paintings. The one I liked the best was "The Betrayal of Saint Peter." What I found interesting was in the background, Jesus was starring at him with an "Omigosh you didn't" look. The picture is illuminated by a single candle, but it looks like it's coming from the woman who asked Saint Peter if he believed in Jesus. The reason I say this is because one finger looked like it was glowing because of the light from the candle. However, we didn't go there just to see Rembrandt.

Some other exhibits were really cool. On the third floor, there was a room that they called the “Firefly Room”. It was a room full of mirrors with lights that changed color hanging from the ceiling. The floor was mirrors, too, so when you walked into the room, it looked like you were walking into infinity. We stayed in there for a good half hour. After awhile, we heard a BONG followed by an “Ow!”, which turned out to be my brother who confused a mirror image of the exit doors with the real thing. We all laughed our heads off and off and off again. Then we went outside.

Tumbling WomanThere was a sculpture called “Tumbling Woman”, but I thought it should have been called “Thinker Got It”, because it looked like Thinker had found the answer to what he was pondering and flipped over. Either that, or “Lucy* Came Calling”, because whenever Lucy yells, whoever is close to her flips. I didn’t find out until later, but the sculpture “Tumbling Woman” was intended by the artist to be a tribute to the victims of 9/11, but alot of people thought it an insult to those who died.

The museum was very interesting, and fun, too. I hope you go there someday.I don’t think a person could get bored in there. I certainly couldn’t, and I’ll bet $100 you can’t.
