Chapter 7: Kira and the
Arizona Sonoran Desert Museum

by Kira Simpson

Kira and GrangeWe went to the Arizona Sonoran Desert Museum yesterday. Some of the exhibits were pretty cool, like the wildcats. There was a gray fox, an ocelot, a mountain lion, a margay and two bobcats. The gray fox wasn’t very active, all it did was lay on a ledge. The ocelot was pretty active. It was moving around a lot. The margay was just as active as the ocelot was. The bobcats just sat on a ledge for a while, then they started moving around more.

After that we saw a couple of javelinas. They were just lying in the shade of a palo verde. I took a picture of them, but it’s not very good.

There was a bighorn sheep exhibit with three sheep in it. Mom said that twenty years ago, somebody snuck in and killed the two bighorns that were there. He took the head from one sheep. They found him awhile after living in a trailer with the head out in front. Looks like a lawn decoration gave the game away.

We went to the birds next, and we got to see a roadrunner. At first, all I saw was a swishing tail. Then I realized it was a roadrunner showing off his food. He was saying life is good...because it is!
