Zuni Bear Fetishes

Bear fetishes are probably the most popular of all Zuni fetishes.  Native and non-Native people alike show a strong affinity for this animal.  In many Pueblo cultures, the Bear Clan is considered a medicine society.  The bear fetish is strongly linked with healing.  In the Zuni healing fetish group, Bear is the protector of the West, little brother to Mountain Lion and associated with the color, blue.  White bears are considered the most powerful of the healing bears.
