The Blue Diamond Turquoise Mine is located approximately fifty miles north of Austin, Nevada in the Iowa Canyon area. Mining commenced in the late 1950’s with the most extensive work happening through the 1960’s and 1970’s. The Blue Diamond Mine is one of only a few “hat mines” meaning the deposits were so small you could “throw your hat” over the turquoise.

It is considered to be a high quality, somewhat rare turquoise because of its characteristic hardness and the limited extraction which has occurred over the mine’s history. Blue Diamond turquoise signature stones show a smoky, swirling brown or black matrix, often surrounded by a deep blue color.
