The Pyramid Lake area has become extremely dry in recent years, and willows are not plentiful or always good.  Arthur goes up a special canyon near Cedarville, California, to get their material.  He gets chokecherry and red willow for frames and makes the tough wood warm enough in his hands so that it will bend; then they tie it to hold the shape until it dries.
